laptop keyboard die or the laptop can not find keyboard (touchpad) is a common case in laptop problem.
this time,I show some email to show how to deal with them.

Dear Jeff,
the problem is – all worked after installing the motherboard, so I do not think it has to do with the connector, but I will take a look at it tomorrow.
The Asus A6VA also has a few keys under the touchpad – for me it seemed they were connected together with the touchpad to the motherboard, is this correct?
Cause they are still working. The touchpad began 2 days ago to, let’s say: “die”. The mouse cursor was hopping around and was not following my directions any more.
So I made a reboot. Afterwards all was working as usual. Next day I did a boot up and the touchpad was not recognized any more (the key touchpad on/off) is not reacting.
So I thought it could be a software problem and made a boot up with my Linux Live CD, where I know, all components are working, but the same thing happening there…no touchpad.
So actually I do not know, if the problem could be the touchpad itself or the motherboard, I will analyze it further tomorrow.
Thank you for the information.
Kind Regards

hi,andreas
today,i talk about your case with our engineer ,he said he have been meet same issue.
the issue come from cable of touchpad, not connector of motherboard.
because point of adherence between the cable of touchpad with connector of motherboard is Conductive Paint , not metal.
so Conductive Paint is slight chipped off and this touchpad poor contact.
Result,the laptop can find touchpad.
I tell how to deal with the issue. i don’t have cable of touchpad ,so i use a keyboard cable.
you need cut away a little tochpad cable(about 1millimeter ),don’t cute too much and keep good contact with connector.
thanks

Dear Jeff,
thank you very very much!!
Today I took another look at the connector and it’s connection…you and your engineer were right – the connection was bad.
If I pressed on the connector, the lights on the notebooks front turned on and off. So I cut away a minimal piece of the touchpad
cable, but without success. So my next try was, to attach two layers of transparent film on the bottom of the cable, so it is pressed
better into the connector – and after doing that, all is back working!!
Thank you for your support!
Kind Regards
